Director of Intellectual Property, Solazyme

Solazyme is a leader in the application of synthetic biology to marine microorganisms to produce renewable fuels, lubricants, industrial chemicals and health and wellness products. Solazyme's mission is to develop and commercialize environmentally sustainable, scalable, and economically attractive bio-alternatives to petroleum and plant-based fuels and chemicals. The company is located in the heart of the biotechnology corridor in South San Francisco California.

We are currently searching for a Director of Intellectual Property to join our team. The ideal candidate will thrive in a cutting edge, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the biological sciences, PhD preferred, and excellent patent prosecution skills.

This position reports directly to the CTO and President who is a patent attorney.

Requirements:

•  4-8 years of experience at a major law firm working on biotechnology patent prosecution
•  Licensing and contract experience is a plus
•  In-house experience at a biotechnology company also
•  PhD in a biological science highly preferred
•  J.D. from an accredited law school
•  Registration with U.S.P.T.O.

Responsibilities:

•  Draft patent applications covering emerging technologies
•  Closely coordinate with research and process development project leaders
•  Manage flow of invention disclosures
•  Serve as primary contact for outside IP counsel
•  Participate in creation and negotiation of contracts
